CANTON – On Saturday. Nov. 5, the Canton Tree Committee finished a fall planting of 30 trees.

The trees were planted at the SLC BOCES on Main Street (10 trees), forming a corridor of flowering crabapple trees along the entrance to Canton village, Law Lane housing complex (5 oak trees), Bend in the River Park (6 trees), around the Welcome to Canton sign by Poulin Grain (2 flowering bushes) and on Steven Street (the first trees donated to private property owners for the roadside-3 trees) and 3 flowering trees in the Hodskin Street parking lot.

There were upwards of 20 people from the public at the Bend in the River planting of four trees, and the rain held off. The coffee, doughnuts and socialization after the planting was enjoyed.

The Canton Village Tree Committee was well represented with Chair Lance W. Rudiger, Secretary Herb Bullock, John Casserly, Ben Budelman and prospective members Dale Grant and Tim Abplanalp.

Many partnered to make the project a success. The agencies included the St. Lawrence County BOCES, Canton Housing Authority, National Grid, Canton DPW and village superintendent, the mayor and village board, private landowners, and members of the public who all made significant contributions.
