CANTON – Members of the Canton Fire Department recognized Fire Prevention Week by visiting first and second grade students at Banford Elementary School on Tuesday, Oct. 10.
Fire Prevention Officer Dan Aldous and firefighter Drew Johnson put on an assembly that featured a video on the 3 P's of Fire Safety "Planning, Practice and Prevention."
All students learned two ways out of their home, the meaning of Exit signs in public buildings, creating a meeting place, and ways to prevent fires with home heating appliances.
Firefighter Johnson dressed in full gear to show the students what firefighters look like and sound like. At the end students were given packets containing coloring books and pamphlets for their families, as well as a homework assignment to have their parents check smoke detectors and practice two ways out.
Fire Prevention activities continue all week at the station and with in school assemblies.
