North Country This Week
CANTON – The quest continues to offer electricity supply options to village residents.
A Community Power program will take place Wednesday, Sept. 20, at 6:30 p.m. at the Canton Municipal Building, 60 Main St.
For some time, village officials have been working with Joule Community Power exploring the community choice aggregation (CCA) program.
CCA programs could provide eligible residents and small businesses with access to renewable and standard electricity supply options at rates negotiated between energy suppliers and third party brokers (like Joule Community Power).
“ After the Village of Canton, with CCA administrator Joule Community Power, decided earlier in the summer to hold off on a power purchase, due to high pricing,” stated Village Trustee Klaus Proemm. “It’s now looking possible to get better pricing, and we’re getting ready to try again.”
Proemm pointed out the public information session will be an update on the whole Community Choice Energy scenario with Joule Power representatives joining the Zoom meeting to deliver information and answer questions.
“The next step will be taking a careful look at the current power rate available and if it’s an acceptable rate, going ahead with a purchase of renewable energy for village residents,” Proemm remarked.
If the village, in fact, selects an electricity supplier, eligible residents and businesses will receive a letter outlining the program, choices, and information about how to opt out.
