All St. Lawrence County school budgets pass

St. Lawrence County residents across the county approved school budgets in each of their districts on Tuesday.

Voters also decided on school board members and propositions.

Here are details on budget votes, other propositions and school board votes for each of the 17 districts in the St. Lawrence County.

Brasher Falls

Brasher Falls Central's budget passed 152-7.

Voters also approved the purchase of school buses and elected Katherine Brown, Julie Carvel-Liberty and Teresa Rios-Passon to the school board.

Brasher Falls Central School District voters were asked to approve a $24.6 million budget, 2.43% increase, and authorize purchase of three 65-passenger school busses.

Canton

Canton Central's budget was approved 405-55.

Voters also approved the purchase of four buses and library funding.

Steve Sanderson, Keith Rosser and Eileen Raymond won three-year terms to the school board; Andrew Moses got a two year term.

Canton Central School’s $31.7 million budget represents a 2.55% increase.

Colton-Pierrepont

Colton-Pierrepont's budget passed 184-35.

Voters also approved the purchase of a bus.

Mike Dumas, Clint Perrigo and Chad VanBrocklin were elected to the school board.

Colton-Pierrepont Central’s budget is $10.8 million

Clifton-Fine

Clifton-Fine's budget passed 174-50. Voters elected Roger Benjamin, Robert Lachut and Nicole Curry to the school board.

Clifton-Fine Central School’s budget is $10.9 million, 1.11% more than this year. Voters will also be asked to approve spending $279,000 for multiple equipment lines and $100,000 for a capital outlay project.

Edwards-Knox

Edwards-Knox's budget passed 130-20, and voters approved buying two buses.

Stacia Kronisier and Todd Wells were elected to the school board.

At Edwards-Knox Central, the budget is $16.1 million, a 2.79% increase.

Gouverneur

Gouverneur Central's budget was approved 215-68. Voters also approved using capital reserve money for the second phase of a building project.

Lisa McGregor, Sue Newvine and William Cartwright all took school board seats.

The Gouverneur Central budget is $36.8 million, a .31% increase.

Hammond

Hammond Central's budget passed 92-27.

Donald Ceresoli Jr., Charles Clemons Jr. and Douglas DeLosh were elected to the school board.

At Hammond Central, the budget is $8.37 million, a 1.08% increase.

Hermon-DeKalb

Hermon-DeKalb's budget passed 133-5, and voters also said yes to purchasing four school buses.

Richard Hamilton and Ronald Smith were elected to the school board.

At Hermon-DeKalb Central School, the budget is $11.34 million, a 5.78% increase compared to this year.

Heuvelton

Heuvelton Central's budget passed 171 - 28.

Voters also agreed to set up a capital reserve fund and picked Karen Clary and Nick Montrois for the school board.

At Heuvelton Central, the budget is $14.4 million budget, a 1.3% increase.

Lisbon

At Lisbon Central School, voters were asked to approve a $14.5 million budget, representing a 2.8% increase. There were 375 yes votes compared to 181 no votes.

Voters did not approve an $8.3 million renovation project and a $1.7 million two-story community fitness center.

The capital project vote was 285 to 255 in favor, but a super majority was needed.

The fitness project was voted down 362 no votes to 185 yes votes.

Running for four school board seats were Jennifer Gray, Nancy Addison, Angela McLear, Nicole LaPage, James (Larry) Doyle, John McBath and Becky Buckingham.

The four members votes in were Jennifer Gray, 369 votes; Becky Buckingham, 335 votes; Angela McLear, 299 votes, and John McBath with 292 votes.

McBath barely edged out Nicole LaPage who garnered 291 votes. School officials said Nancy Addison received 230 votes and Larry Doyle got 218.

Madrid-Waddington

Madrid-Waddington Central voters approved their budget 141-16.

Bruce Durant and Tina Bush received 5-year terms on the school board and Richard Hobkirk will serve a 2-year term.

Propositions approved include a bus purchase, building condition survey, capital outlay project, and data server/scissor lift.

Madrid-Waddington Central School has a $17.3 million budget, a 2.76% increase.

Massena

Massena Central School voters approve a $54.94 million budget, a .91 increase, by a vote of 348-48.

Re-elected to the school board were Paul Haggett with 276 votes, and Kevin Perretta, with 225 votes. Both are incumbents. Jodele Hammock received 215 votes.

Voters also approved creation of a $4 million capital reserve fund. The vote was 350-45.

Morristown

Morristown Central's budget passed 141-46.

Voters also approved library funding, and picked Darrell Merkel, Dr. Lawrence Kring III and Joseph Belile for the school board.

The budget is $11.6 million budget, 6.8% more than this year.

Norwood-Norfolk

Norwood-Norfolk voters passed their budget 190-35.

They also approved purchasing four buses. Suzanne Fiacco, Mary Ellen Todd, Artie Frego and Robert Barlow were elected to the school board.

In the Norwood-Norfolk Central School, the budget is $24.2 million budget, a 2.53% increase.

Ogdensburg

Voters in Ogdensburg approved the budget, 398-167, but rejected a $75,000 increase in library funding, 340-226.

Ron Johnson and Michael Myers were elected to the school board.

The budget is $45 million for the 2019-20 school year, a .44% decrease.

Parishville-Hopkinton

In the Parishville-Hopkinton Central School District, voters will be asked to approve an $11.6 million budget, a .95% increase and school bus purchases not to exceed $210,000. Voters will also be asked to authorize creation of a capital reserve fund not to exceed $1.5 million.

Running for two school board seats are Jennifer Hernandez, Joseph McGill, Michael Tremper, Janine Sullivan, Kyle Tyo and Geri Lynn Wilson.

Potsdam

Potsdam Central School District voters approved a $34.27 million budget, which is a 2.56% increase from last year.

The budget passed 462-83 Tuesday, according to school officials. The bus proposition was approved 461-83 and the capital reserve proposition passed 480-60.

The school plans to purchase of three school buses as part of its regular bus replacement schedule. The district will look to establish a capital reserve fund to help offset any local share of future capital projects.

The total increase in the tax levy is $317,815, according to Potsdam Central Superintendent Joann Chambers. This is a 2.4% increase, which is at the tax cap. The total amount to be raised from taxpayers is $13,560,097.

The school is using $2 million in fund balance to keep its tax increase at the cap.

Running for three school board seats were Deborah Shipp, Tarik Ait Maatallah, Rachel Wallace, Stacey Green, Kristie Phippen and Ralph Fuller.

Winning seats were Deborah Shipp with 305 votes, Ralph Fuller with 302, and Rachel Wallace with 290.

Ait Maatallah garnered 227, Green 167 and Phippen 162.
