Ogdensburg City School District names valedictorian, salutatorian for 2021

OGDENSBURG — The valedictorian and salutatorian for the class of 2021 at Ogdensburg City School District have been named. The district is proud announced their valedictorian as Sloane Ryan and their salutatorian as DeAnna Fennessy.

Sloane Ryan, valedictorian, is the daughter of Garth and Molly Ryan of Ogdensburg. With a grade point average of 99.28, she ranks number one in her class of 106 seniors. Sloane will graduate in June 2021 with a Regents diploma with Advanced Designation with Honors and an annotation that denotes Mastery in Mathematics and Science.

Outside of academics, Ryan is well-known in the district and community as an outstanding vocalist and actress, having starred in community productions and school productions. Sloane has performed vocal and instrumental solos for NYSSMA for years, and she has participated in very competitive All-County, Area All-State, All-State, and All-Eastern vocal programs.

She is also a member of National Honor Society, marching band, drama club, Key Club, Student Council, and much more. Further, Ryan holds two part-time jobs and has completed many group community service hours as a Key Club and National Honor Society member.

She is the recipient of the Alan Krause Citizenship Award. This year, Sloane represented OFA on WWNY TV7 News at Noon as an Academic All-Star and also as an Arts All-Star in a separate interview.

Ryan is interested in pursuing a major in music, and she will be attending New York University.

With a grade point average of 98.86, she is ranked 2nd in her Senior Class of 106 students, a position maintained throughout her high school career. DeAnna will graduate with an Advanced Regents Diploma with Honors with an annotation that denotes Mastery in Math and Science in June, 2021.

This past fall, Fennessy earned Advanced Placement Scholar status, given to those students who earn a score of 3 or higher on three or more Advanced Placement Exams.

Fennessy has been a member of the Student Council and National Honor Society since 10th grade. DeAnna was Class Vice President during her tenth grade year. She has also participated in Winter and Spring track since 9th grade.

She intends to major in political science and then pursue a law degree. Fennessey is currently considering attending the following universities: Emory University, Georgia State University, or Syracuse University.
