SLU, Potsdam choruses

CANTON: St. Lawrence’s University Chorus and Potsdam Community Chorus will perform together at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9, in Gunnison Memorial Chapel at St. Lawrence University, and again at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10, at First Presbyterian Church located at 42 Elm Street in Potsdam; both concerts are free and open to the public; the combined forces of Canton’s University Chorus and the Potsdam Community Chorus will sing iconic choral arrangements of folk songs, spirituals, hymns and more by America’s preeminent composer and arranger, Alice Parker.

‘Wonderland High’

HEUVELTON: Students from Heuvelton High School will present the musical “Wonderland High” 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium; based on the characters from Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, Wonderland High is a modern day high school drama in which the students face all the same struggles of contemporary high schools; directed by Mollie Ladouceur and Lauren Baldwin, and features 25 students in grades 7-12; tickets cost $12 for adults, and $6 for students.

December Wind

RUSSELL: Akwesasne band December Wind will perform at the Russell Opera House, 4 Pestle St., 7 p.m.; doors open at 6:30 p.m.; admission is $10; award-winning singer songwriter Atsiaktonkie leads the band on guitar, with Terry Terrance on bass, and Barry Corley from Motwon on drums and percussion; band blends rock and roll with a softer, more acoustic and folksy style-folk with feathers, said a press release from the band; for booking or more information: www.decemberwindmusic.com, www.facebook.com/decemberwindmusic, decemberwindband@yahoo.com, 315-600-7062.

‘The Bakkhai’

CANTON: St. Lawrence University’s Department of Performance and Communication Arts will put on a production of “The Bakkhai” at 8 p.m. from Wednesday, Nov. 6, to Saturday, Nov. 9, along with a matinee at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10, in the Edison R. Miles Black Box Theater; all showings are free and open to the public, but advance tickets are required.

Opera performance

POTSDAM: The Crane Opera Ensemble and Orchestra will present Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's comic opera, "Le Nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro)" at SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music; 7:30 p.m. in the Sara M. Snell Music Theater. The opera, sung in Italian with English supertitles projected over the stage, wis based on the revolutionary French play by Beaumarchais with a libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte, the opera features comic situations and a brilliant, tuneful score that continues to delight audiences.
