MASSENA – The St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce will host a Business Expo at the St. Lawrence Centre mall in Massena on Wednesday, June 26.

Admission to the event is free. The event will feature opportunities for Job Seekers and New or existing Businesses.

Attendees are encouraged to start the day with a free workshop for Job Seekers at 10 a.m. that will provide resume tips, interviewing techniques and job searching strategies. The same workshop will be repeated at 2 p.m. Both workshops will be presented by Maryl J. Jerdon, Employment Counselor for the New York State Department of Labor.

Jim Murphy of the Massena Business Development Corp will lead a workshop for aspiring entrepreneurs at 10 AM. This session will focus on business start-up basics and available funding for small businesses.

Business owners will benefit from attending the 2 p.m. workshop titled ‘Marketing 101: Rock your business’ led by Jennifer McCluskey of the SUNY Canton Small Business Development Center.

From 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., attendees will have an opportunity to view a variety of businesses and organizations. Each table at the expo will have information about their business, and information about current job opportunities.

Following the Business Expo, a ‘Buy Local’ matchmaker will take place from 3 p.m. – 4 p.m. A Matchmaker is an event where businesses have an opportunity to network with one another and identify opportunities for contracting cooperative partnerships and referrals.

Matchmaking is similar to ‘Speed-dating’ or ‘Speed-networking’. Business participants will sign up for 10-minute meetings with contacts of their choice and have that short time to network and share marketing materials. When the bell rings, participants move to the next table. This event is free for all businesses and organizations. All events will take place around the food court at the St. Lawrence Centre mall.
