NORWOOD – Two concerts are slated this coming week for the Norwood Village Green Concert Series.
Northern Symphonic Winds will play Thursday, June 27, and local band Northbound will perform Sunday, June 30.
Northern Symphonic Winds will perform Thursday, June 27, the 1st of three “Around the Corner and Close to Home” concerts for the Norwood Village Green Concert Series. The concert begins at 7 p.m.
NSW has performed annually for the series for the past 12 years.
Founded in 1998, Northern Symphonic Winds is a 46- to 52-piece wind and percussion ensemble comprised of faculty from the Crane School of Music, northern New York music teachers, other professionals, and selected Crane students.
The ensemble holds firmly to three primary objectives: to feature the finest wind and percussion performers available in the North Country, to perform music of the highest quality, and to bring enjoyment and satisfaction not just to the ensemble’s musicians, but also to audiences around the North Country.
It is the only professional wind ensemble in Northern New York. Each concert explores a different wind band repertoire. Dr. Brian K. Doyle and Scott LaVine direct the group.
Dr. David Hornung is underwriter for Northern Symphonic Winds. The series is supported in part by the New York State Council on the Arts.
