CANTON — The premier men’s singing group of Canton, The Goldenaires, will again deliver signing Valentines on Monday, Feb. 14, only this year the performances will not be in person, but delivered on YouTube.
The Goldenaires made the decision to deliver the Valentines on the Internet due to COVID fears.
The change in format will mean that the sender must have access to the Internet. This information will be very important to the technical crew involved in coordinating the delivery. Senders will receive a link of the performance to send to a recipient who can view it at any time.
On the past 18 Valentine’s Days, The Goldenaires have sent two or three quartets out to deliver “Singing Valentines” all over St. Lawrence County.
The singing valentines raise funds for high school seniors who display a special vocal or musical talent/interest at their school, and share this interest/talent in some way with their school and local community.
Each school district in St. Lawrence County is sent a letter to announce the fundraiser and for the seniors to apply for a possible cash award. In 2020, we had 14 excellent applications and our selection committee handed out 5 awards of $400 each.
The 2020 winners were: Grace Franklin of Canton C.S., Grace Sawyko of Edwards-Knox C.S., Carlena Wright of Massena C.S., Erin Dickinson of Norwood-Norfolk C.S., and Gerald Powers of Ogdensburg Free Academy.
To schedule a singing Valentine for a loved one or group, call or text Vickie Hanson at 315-379-9848 (h) or 315-261-9828 (c) and supply her with your e-mail. Hanson will confirm your special valentine and give you the necessary information to link up and clarify payment details. Mailed requests can be sent to 544 Glenmeal Rd., Canton, NY 13617.
Requests for singing Valentines must be received by Feb. 12 at noon.
Cost is a donation of $40 (or more).
