County Historical Association to host “The Fry Family: Black Pioneers of Gouverneur” Feb. 27 in Canton

CANTON -- In recognition of Black History Month, the St. Lawrence County Historical Association (SLCHA) will host a presentation by DeKalb historian Bryan Thompson entitled “The Fry Family: Black Pioneers of Gouverneur” on Thursday, Feb. 27, at noon.

SLCHA is located at 3 E. Main St., Canton.

Who was Flora Fry? Why was she given a Gerritt Smith land grant when women in New York State would not be able to vote until 1918? What became of her four children raised in Gouverneur? Join the Association to find out more about these early black pioneers.
