AKWESASNE – In recognition of National Nutrition Month, , CKON radio host Reen Cook and local business owner Dave Mainville will help deliver meals from the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe Office for the Aging to local elders on March 18 at 10:30 a.m.

Also that day, Tribal Police Sgt. Ted Cook and Karson Mitchell, a community member, will assist with congregate meals within the Office for the Aging’s senior center, 29 Margaret Terrance Memorial Way, to bring attention to the importance of healthy eating in older adults. The office said they may have a few other surprise guests.

Each year, the aging network in New York delivers nearly 14 and a half million home delivered meals (HDM’s) to more than 64,000 older individuals, and serves over 1 million meals to more than 184,000 individuals in congregate setting – more than any other state in the nation, said a press release from the Office for the Aging.

SRMT Office for the Aging currently serves an average of 40 elders for daily home delivered meals and an average of 40 people for daily congregate meals. In addition, the agency provides nutrition education and counseling to many more, the press release said.
