MORRISTOWN -- The Morristown Public Library is hosting its 7th annual Plein Air Festival from the Thursday, Aug. 1-Sunday, Aug. 4.

The four-day event invites artists to come into the community and paint landscapes in the plein air tradition.

“This is our seventh year. Morristown is officially part of the plein air tradition,” Library Director Bridget Whalen-Nevin said. “I just love how works created of our venues will be studied by art students 100 years from now. This is Morristown, and as they say, ‘the past is our future’.”

This year 25 artists have registered including five brand-new to the Morristown festival. Among the roster of painters selected is St. Lawrence County artist Amy Forgit of Hammond.

Each artist submits paintings for a chance to win part of a total cache of $1,750 in cash prizes.

The special show of the 75 paintings created during the weekend is open to the general public Sunday, August 4 at noon at Bella-Brooke Vineyard and Winery in Hammond.

Other weekend activities include a Frederic Remington Museum social evening and a Gateway Museum local talent exhibit.

During the weekend, there will be opportunities for the general public to watch the artists paint, mingle with them at an evening social event and purchase their best work at the closing silent auction and reception, featuring door prizes and entertainment.
