LABORER (full-time) • Village of Canton, New York. The Village of Canton has a full-time opening for the position of Laborer within the Recreation Department. DUTIES: Candidate will be responsible for the daily upkeep and maintenance of facilities and grounds overseen by the recreation department. The job description changes on a seasonal basis with approximately six months of the year (October – March) performing maintenance/duties at the Canton Recreational Pavilion ice rink. The other 6 months are spent maintaining parks, athletic fields, playgrounds, and non-ice events at the Pavilion. QUALIFICATIONS: Candidate must be 18 years old or older with the ability to deal with and get along with the public in a friendly, and courteous manner. Candidate must be willing to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on the schedule and season. This position requires the physical ability to withstand cold weather associated with winter recreation programs/facilities. Some basic knowledge of carpentry, electricity, and mechanics is desired. Candidate with experience operating light equipment, including commercial lawn mower, ice resurfacing machine, ice edging machine, pickup truck with plow, and other light equipment needed to perform necessary seasonal jobs is preferred. Candidate must be capable of lifting 50 pounds. Training will be provided. SALARY & BENEFITS: $18 to $22 per hour, depending on experience. Forty hours per week.
