Stephen “Flash” A. Gordon, 65, formerly of Canton

ROCHELLE PARK, NJ – Stephen “Flash” Alfred Gordon, 65, of Rochelle Park passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ.

Stephen was born to Alfred V. and Elizabeth J. (Hynes) Gordon on October 1, 1958, in Ogdensburg, NY. He was raised in Rensselaer Falls, NY by his parents, Bob and Betty Poor.

Steve graduated from Canton Central School, class of 1977, where he enthusiastically participated in football, wrestling, and track & field. He attended SUNY Canton, where he was a member of the Zeta Alpha Phi fraternity.

On September 16, 1989, he married Anne LaPierre at St. Raphael’s Church in Heuvelton, NY. They resided in Rochelle Park where they raised their three sons.

Steve was a tent buyer and head of the repair department at Campmor in Paramus for over 25 years.

During his younger years, Flash worked at The Brass Rail in Canton, and at McAdam Cheese in Heuvelton. He had fond memories of working on his grandparents’ farm during the summers of his teen years.

Stephen loved the outdoors, and was happiest when camping, kayaking and gardening.

He was a life-long NY Giants fanatic.

Steve also took great pleasure in cooking and baking for his family, caring for his fish tanks and woodworking.

Active in his community, Steve coached youth wrestling in Hackensack and coached and served as a board member for the Rochelle Park Recreational Soccer Program. He was a deacon at Upper Ridgewood Community Church.

Steve is survived by his wife, Anne; and sons, Benjamin, Andrew and Randall Gordon. Also surviving are his parents, Robert and Betty Poor, siblings, Susan Huntley, Christopher (Faith) Gordon, Robert (Kathy) Gordon, and Kevin (Sue) Poor. He was a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews and was loved by many aunts and uncles. He will also be sadly missed by his in-laws, George and Allien LaPierre, Andrea (Angelo) Kanakis, Alicia LaPierre (Dominique Mossman) and their families.

He was predeceased by his father, Alfred V. Gordon, Jr. in 1964; and his grandparents Ralph & Hazel (Cleland) Hynes, Clifford & Ruth (Mouthorp) Poor, and Alfred V. Gordon, Sr. & Marjorie (Lajoie) Gordon.

Services in NJ are being held on Friday, March 22.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Stephen in late Spring/Summer in Rensselaer Falls, NY at a date still to be determined.
