Virginia E. Skipka, 90, Heuvelton

Virginia E. Skipka, age 90, formerly of State Hwy 184, Heuvelton, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at St. Joseph's Home surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at 12:00 pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home, with Deacon Mark LaLonde officiating. Calling hours will also be held on Wednesday from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the funeral home.

Surviving are her children, Curt (Julie) Skipka of Lisbon, Brian Skipka of Belgium, and Michelle (Tom) Carkner of Ogdensburg; grandchildren, Ryan (Brie) Skipka of Albany, Stephanie (Charles) Shaver of Ogdensburg, Tiffany Lehman of Oswego, Vanessa Skipka of Lisbon; great-grandchildren, Luke Ives, Elijah Shaver, Thomas Shaver, Emmie Skipka, and Elliot Skipka; daughters-in-law, Peggy Kotash & Vicky Skipka; along with many step-grandchildren and step- great-grandchildren.

Virginia was predeceased by her husband, Frank Skipka on September 13, 2006; two sons, Barry & Mark Skipka and an infant brother, Wilson Blackburn. She was born on August 2, 1933, in Gouverneur, a daughter of Philip & Vera (Johnson) Blackburn. She was raised by her grandparents William & Elena (Wright) Johnson and attended Macomb rural school and Heuvelton Central. She married Frank J. Skipka on June 17, 1952, in Bayshore, NY.

Virginia began her working career at Pilgrim Psychiatric Center in Brentwood, NY, as a nurses' aid. She returned home to Macomb in 1961, where she assisted her husband with the family farm while raising her family. Starting in 1985, Virginia delivered the Watertown Daily Times. In 1990, she became a rural postal carrier for Heuvelton and DePeyster, where she worked for 23 years until her retirement in 2013. She and her husband were active with Boy Scout Troop 67 for many years.

Virginia enjoyed canning, baking, gardening, and caring for her many adopted animals over the years. Above all, she cherished spending time with her family.
