Gary C. Ling, 70, Winthrop

WINTHROP --  Mr. Gary C. Ling, 70, a beloved father, brother, grandfather, dedicated employee, and cherished friend peacefully departed from this world on February 12, 2024, and the Canton – Potsdam Hospital with his family by his side.

Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop and following Gary’s wishes there will be no public services at this time. His family will honor his life in the spring.

Gary was born on September 3, 1953, in Saranac Lake to the late Harold and Virgina (Collins) Ling.

After graduation he was married to Connie Weegar on August 18, 1973, they were best friends and amazing partners in life. Connie passed away July 24, 2020.

Gary dedicated many years of his life to his career as a Kiln Dryer for Potsdam Hardwoods. With his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence, he was a valued employee and made a significant contribution to the logging industry. His dedication and skill in operating the kiln were greatly appreciated by his colleagues and supervisors.

Outside of work, Gary enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He had a deep passion for fishing, hunting, and camping. These activities allowed him to connect with nature and find solace in the beauty of the outdoors.

One of his favorite things was spending time with his "camp family" in St. Regis Falls, where he forged lifelong friendships and created cherished memories.

Gary was a devoted father to his daughters, Carrie, and Bobby Jo. He bestowed upon them his love, support, and guidance, cherishing their presence in his life.

Gary's selfless nature extended to his grandchildren, forming bonds, and sharing memorable moments that will forever hold a place in their hearts.

He will be greatly missed by his family; two daughters, Carrie and David Wells of Potsdam, and Bobby Jo and Richard Deshane of Winthrop; five grandchildren, Kobe Wells, Rylee (Tanner) Wells, Anthony Deshane and his fiancé, Beth, Austin (Isabell) Deshane, and Ashley (Damien) Deshane; two great grandchildren, Wyatt and Jaxon Deshane; two brothers, James ‘Jim’ Ling and Steve and Diane Ling; and brother–in–law, Ronald Weegar and Winnie.

Besides his wife and parents, Gary was predeceased by his brother, Harold ‘Sunny’ Ling and a nephew, Jamie Ling.

As we mourn the loss of Gary, let us remember the joy he brought to our lives and the compassion he showed to others.

May his soul find eternal peace, and his memory forever live on in our hearts.
