DEKALB -- Barbara J Cross, age 84, passed away peacefully on Sunday February 11 at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation in Calvert City, Kentucky.

Barb was born in DeKalb, June 10, 1939, to the late Douglas and Doris (McHeffey) Cross, the second daughter of ten children.

Barb’s interests and skills were multifaceted. If you were a child in the county 4-H program in the 60s, 70s, or 80s, you will remember her as a dedicated club leader, active in the dog, horse, woodworking, ornamental horticulture, public presentation, and rabbit programs.

Personally, she was particularly fond of knitting and raising her dogs.

It was her commitment to family that spurred her research in genealogy, tracing her family back to the Mayflower and allowing her to become a proud member of the Mayflower Society.

Her professional life followed similar themes of animals, outdoors, family, and hard work.

She assisted in managing the family slaughterhouse, while taking on the roles of County Nuisance Wildlife Control, and Dog Control Officer for Jefferson County and several St Lawrence County communities.

Her later years brought her to Jesus, being baptized and joining the House of Prayer in Elkton, KY, where she enjoyed spending time with friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne and Larry Cross; two sisters, Pearl Bowman and Mabel Hamilton; life partner, Denver Littebrant; sons-in-law, Francis Morey and Bill Whitaker; and grandson, Todd LaRock.

She is survived by two sons, D.R. Littlebrant (Debbie LaRock) and Mike Littlebrant (Sandy Burnett) both of Fowler; four daughters, Donna Morey of Nashville TN, Pam Owen (Marty) of Elkton KY, Terri Whitaker of Balmat, and Michelle Littlebrant (Brian Barrett) of Norfolk; three brothers, Reginald Cross of Minden NE, Gerald Cross of Canton, and Rodney Cross of Lisbon; two sisters, Linda Cross of Ogdensburg, and Jean Fowler of Harrisville; fifteen grandchildren, several great grandchildren, one great great grandson, and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her close friends, Bonnie Cain and Lisa Brown.

A service is being held on Sunday February 18 at the Todd County Funeral Home in Elkton, KY for her Kentucky friends and family.

She will travel home to be laid to rest with her family in the Old Dekalb Cemetery, where a graveside memorial and service is planned for her birthday.
