GOUVERNEUR — Two people were rescued on Yellow Lake Wednesday afternoon, according to Gouverneur Fire.
Fire officials said they responded around 3:22 p.m. following a report that two people were on shore with exposure to cold water after a kayaking incident.
“Crews launched the boat at the Yellow Lake Campground access and found the subjects on the opposite side of the lake where there is no access to the lake,” officials said.
Both people had reportedly been exposed to cold water.
Members assisted with recovering one of the kayaks and the other one was unfounded as it had sunk.
“We would like to thank St. Lawrence County dispatch for their great communication which helped us quickly locate the individuals,” Gouverneur fire said.
Firefighters also offered a reminder that people should have a life jacket on while enjoying time on the water.
“The water temps are very cold in the spring and will cause hypothermia,” fire officials said.
