Mary Evelyn Cordwell, 80, Canton

CANTON -- Mary Evelyn Cordwell, age 80, of Canton, passed away on January 13, 2024, at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.

She is survived by her husband of over 61 years, Wayne Cordwell; her children, Julie Ann Oneil and her husband, John Thomas, of Glenn Falls, William Albert Cordwell, and his companion, Stacy Brabant, of Ogdensburg, Matthew Wayne Cordwell and his companion, Crystal Cameron, of Ogdensburg, Lawrence George Cordwell and his wife, Christina Crump, of Potsdam, and Brad Allen Cordwell and his wife, Sherry, of Madrid; eighteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; her sister, Betty Baker and her companion, Don Mosher, of Ogdensburg; her sister-in-law, Arlene LaFave, of Ogdensburg; and her
brother-in-law, Albert Cordwell, and his wife Margaret.

She is predeceased by her parents, Stanley and Mary Compo; her brother, Stanley Compo; and her granddaughter, Jennifer Oneil.

Mary was born on April 14, 1943, in Ogdensburg, the daughter of Stanley and Mary Compo.

She attended Ogdensburg Free Academy and received her GED.

She married Wayne Cordwell on June 4, 1963, at Notre Dame Church with Rev. Monsignor A.D. Charbonneau presiding.

She stayed at home, raised her five children, and went to work at Kinney Drugs after her children were grown.

She enjoyed making crafts, crocheting blankets, cooking, crafting ceramics, playing games like Scrabble
and bingo, going to garage sales, and refinishing antiques.

She was very outdoorsy; she enjoyed riding on the tractors through the woods with her children, picking leeks, and having picnics.

She enjoyed the company of her two good friends, Pauline Patnode and Betty Mattice whom she did a lot.

She also even helped her husband install woodstoves when he had his business.

She was an amazing woman and mother, who always took care of the neighborhood children.
