Maria Ann Sawyer, 89, Ogdensburg

OGDENSBURG -- A Mass of Christian Burial for Maria Ann Sawyer, age 89 of Ogdensburg will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday (January 16, 2024) at St. Mary’s Cathedral. Entombment will follow the service at the Oswegatchie Mausoleum.

Calling hours will be held also on Tuesday (January 16, 2024) from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Mrs. Sawyer passed away on Tuesday (Jan 9, 2024) at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center with her family by her side.

Surviving are three sons Philip (Susan) Sawyer of Brasher Falls, Mark (Jonna) Sawyer of Johnstown, PA, and Charles (Jane) Sawyer of New Freedom, PA; a daughter Tina (Rodney) Norman of Lisbon; 18 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; a brother Anthony (Diane) Crupi of New Jersey; a sister Patricia (John) Dillenback of Dexter, NY.

Her husband Charles Sawyer in 2007; a sister & her husband Phyllis (Louis) Fiorentino predeceased her.

Maria was born on September 12, 1934, in Watertown, a daughter of the late Philip & Blanche (Dufresne) Crupi. She graduated from Watertown High School and was later married to Charles W. Sawyer on September 10, 1955, in Watertown, NY.

Maria worked as a stenographer for a short period and also in retail stores in Florida. Following her marriage to Charles, she stayed home to raise her children and provide child care for area families. She enjoyed going for walks, shopping, eating out, and spending time with her children & grandchildren.
