Jeanne M. Deshaies, 95, Massena

MASSENA -- Jeanne M. Deshaies, age 95, passed away on Friday, December 29, 2023 under care of Hospice. Jeanne was a resident at Harbor Health Care in Lewes, DE prior to her passing.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Phillips Memorial Home, 64 Andrews Street, Massena, NY. Services for Jeanne will take place in the spring at the convenience of the family.

Jeanne was born on April 13, 1928 in Cornwall, Ontario, the daughter of Armand and Dolores (Richer) Bissonnette. She was educated in Ottawa, Ontario as a boarder at Notre Dame Convent for three years and continued with Cornwall schools followed by graduation from Cornwall Commercial College.

She married John L. Deshaies on December 26, 1949 at the Nativity Catholic Church in Cornwall, Ontario by a friend of the family, Reverend Anatole Walker of the University of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Jeanne was a longtime Massena resident who enjoyed flower gardening, crafts, and spent many years wintering in Florida. She belonged to several Massena organizations including the Massena Garden Club, Massena Hospital Auxiliary, the K of C retirees, K of C Auxiliary as well as the Hogansburg Seniors. She also volunteered for many years working at the St. Vincent De Paul store. Jeanne worked at the Marine Midland Bank in Massena for 15 years until her retirement. She was also a communicant of the Church of the Sacred Heart in Massena.

She is survived by a son Michael and wife Martha of Milford, DE. Two grandsons; Jon Paul Deshaies of Burlington, VT.; and Michael Shelly of Santa Rosa, Beach, FL., along with nieces and nephews.

Jeanne was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, John L. Deshaies, in 2003, a son Paul A. Deshaies in 2022, a brother Leo Bissonnette, and two sisters; Yvette Leroux and Aline Pulvino.
