CANTON -- Edward “David” Whiteford, 75, of Canton and formerly of Russell, died Saturday, January 20, 2024, at his daughter Lisa’s home in Pierrepont.

Per his wishes services will be held privately.

Surviving are his three children, Clint (Lisa) Whiteford of Ohio, Lisa (Tim) Powers of Pierrepont and Meggan (fiance’, Anita Pryce) Whiteford of Potsdam; his siblings, Robert “Bob” (Connie) Whiteford of Hermon, Fred Whiteford of CO, Leamon (Donna) Whiteford of CT, Doug (Marie) Whiteford of Watertown and Connie (Ray) Sharpstene of NC. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Chad Whiteford, Tyler (Emily) Whiteford, Amber, Matt (Amanda) Smith, Kendra (EJ Warden), Kayla (Tyler Woods), Sierra (Brandon Ferris), Ashley and Josh; twelve great-grandchildren Landon, Liam, Ryker, Cameron, Kamden, Tate, Opal, Paisley, Cole, Raelynn, Zane and Jayce; and his fiance’, Evelyn Torres of Potsdam.

In addition to his wife, Elaine, he was predeceased by two brothers, William “Bill” Whiteford and Donald Whiteford.

David was born a son to the late Donald H. and Elizabeth I. (Kinney) Whiteford on January 23, 1948, in Potsdam, NY.

He graduated from Knox Memorial School in Russell in 1965. On December 4, 1965, he married Elaine C. Garrow in North Russell with Rev. Carl Jacobs as celebrant. The couple were married for 54 years.

David was most recently employed as a volunteer driver for VTC in Canton. Previously he drove a school bus for Edwards-Knox School from 1982 to June 2005. While at E-K he was President of the Union for bus drivers, cafeteria staff, and janitorial staff.

After retiring from E-K he drove a dump truck for Champion Materials in Carthage, NY.

David and his wife Elaine ran the family dairy farm as well, until the early 1990’s.

David was also a town board member for the Town of Russell for a number of years.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Richard E. Winters Cancer Center in Ogdensburg.
