Carol (Wright, Hanna) Smith, 79, formerly of Potsdam

POTSDAM -- It is with heavy hearts that the family of Carol (Wright, Hanna) Smith announces her passing in Canyon Lake, TX on February 9, 2024.

A Celebration of her Life will be held in the summer, the date to be determined.

Surviving Carol are her beloved children: Robin Hanna Johnson, James (Lisa) Hanna, and Jamie (Charles) Slater; Davy’s companion Larry; cherished grandchildren: Amber & Kendra Hanna, Nicole (David) Liscum, Mara (Gene) Cota, Kody (Savona) Hanna, James Hanna & his fiancée Myle Nguyen, Ethan Slater, Emma Slater, and Amber & Kendra Hanna; as well as her adored great-grandchildren: Owen, Bryce Liscum, Ian Liscum, Kalia Cota, and Jensen Hanna. She is also survived by her three sisters: Patricia Ramsey, Penny Dowdle, Karen Andrews & her companion, Ed Stevens; three brothers: Fred, Lee, & Mike Wright; and nieces & nephews: Missy, Brian, Amy Jo, Brandi, Angie, and Marty.

Preceding her in death are her first husband, Lloyd “David” Hanna, her second husband, E. Lewis Smith, her son, Lloyd “Davy” Hanna on March 27, 2023, her infant daughter, Mary Hanna, her son-in-law, Andrew Johnson Sr., a grandson, Andrew Johnson II.

Carol was born on August 25, 1944, in Potsdam, a daughter of the late Frederick and Marjorie (Thompson) Wright.

She attended school in Canton and entered into marriage with Lloyd “David” Hanna on August 18, 1961. After his passing on June 28, 1993, she found love once more and married E. Lewis Smith on October 1, 1994.

Carol and Lewis shared many cherished moments before his passing on March 4, 2012.

Throughout her life, Carol worked diligently for Acco Brands in Ogdensburg as a machine operator.

She found joy in spending time with her family and her beloved pet dog, Dexter.

Carol took immense pride in her gardens, her grandchildren, her scrapbooking projects, and her genealogy findings.

Her infectious laughter, warm smile, and boundless generosity will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
