Winter weather advisory issued for St. Lawrence County Dec. 29-30, 3-9 inches of snow expected

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter weather advisory from Dec. 29 at 10 a.m. until Dec. 30 at 1 p.m. for St. Lawrence County as three to nine inches of snow is possible.

Variable clouds along with a few morning flurries or snow showers are expected today as temperatures settle back to more typical late December values, the service says. Today’s high will be near 28 with an overnight low around 23.

A rapidly deepening coastal storm will track across eastern New England later tomorrow into Friday with significant snowfall expected, NWS says. Behind this system a brief return to quieter weather is expected on Saturday before more snow showers arrive for Saturday night into Sunday.

Snow will likely begin after 11 a.m. on Thursday with wind gusts of 21 mph. New snow accumulation is expected to be one to three inches, the service says. Thursday’s high will be near 35.

The forecast calls for another one to three inches on Thursday night and again on Friday. The low Thursday night will be around 27 with 22 mph wind gusts. Temps will be near 32 on Friday with snow tapering off later in the day, NWS says.

The forecast through the new year is as follows:

Thursday

Snow, mainly after 11am. High near 35. Southeast wind 6 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Thursday Night

Snow. Low around 27. West wind 5 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Friday

Snow. High near 32. West wind 11 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Friday Night

A chance of snow showers before 8pm, then a chance of snow showers after 4am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 12. West wind 7 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Saturday

A 50 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 29. Light and variable wind becoming south around 6 mph in the afternoon.

Saturday Night

Snow likely. Cloudy, with a low around 23. South wind 8 to 10 mph becoming southwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

New Year's Day

Partly sunny, with a high near 32. West wind 5 to 10 mph.
