GOUVERNEUR -- The teenage victim of a Friday fire here died of smoke inhalation and a probe of the blaze that killed her continues, according to state police.

Jasmine L. Pankey, 15, died in the conflagration at 1119 U.S. Route 11 early Friday morning.

St. Lawrence County Coroner June Wood ruled the manner of death accidental.

Pankey’s mother, 36-year-old Sandra O’Mara and nephew 7-year-old Tyler Shatraw escaped with minor injuries. They were evaluated at the scene, troopers said.

The St. Lawrence County Cause and Origin Team and state police are still investigating the fire, troopers said.

Pankey’s autopsy was performed by Dr. Samuel Livingstone at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
