NORFOLK -- Volunteers from the North Country Chapter of the American Red Cross provided emergency aid to one person after a fire Monday night on Crabb Street in Norfolk.
The Red Cross provided the affected resident with financial assistance for food, clothing and bedding, and basic personal care items, according to a press release from the organization. In coming days, Red Cross staff and volunteers will remain available to help navigate the road to recovery.
Since Jan. 1, the Red Cross has responded to more than 200 home fires in the Eastern New York region and provided assistance to more than 1,000 local fire victims, the release said.
The Red Cross relies on the power of volunteers, who are needed now to help provide disaster relief across the region. To join the Red Cross as a disaster responder, visit www.redcross.org/volunteer, enter your home zip code and select “Disaster Services” as your area of interest.
