CORTLAND -- Senior Patrick Carroll (Queensbury, NY) and sophomore Sarah Governale (Wading River, NY) finished 8th and 9th in their respective races to lead the Clarkson University Cross Country team at the Jack Daniels Shoot-Out hosted by SUNY Cortland on Saturday.

The Golden Knights' men placed second of the eight teams, trailing only the host Cortland (15) with 66 points, and just beating out SUNY-ESF (71). The women placed in the middle of the pack, taking fourth place among eight teams with 116 points.

In the men's 6,000-meter event, Carroll came in eight place among 105 participants with a time of 19 minutes, 30.8 seconds. Junior Dan Fritz (Cicero, NY) finished 22 seconds later, but just four places behind Carroll in 12th. Senior Andrew Gelston (White Plains, NY) took 15th in 19:56.4 to strengthen Clarkson's place in the meet and sophomore Austin Holbrook (Corning, NY) and junior Anthony Caruso (Amherst, NH) held off the third place team by finishing in 25th and 28th place, respectively.

The women ran a short 4,000-meter event but the pacing didn't effect Sarah Governale, who took ninth place among 132 runners in 15:23.1. Senior Rachel Bachman (Queensbury, NY) was the next Knight to cross the finish line, taking 20th place in 15:39.00.

Chelsea Farinacci (Huntington, NY), Catherine Zarnofsky (Glenville, NY) and Dana Schmidt (Johnson City, NY) placed 65th, 69th, and 70th place, respectively, to round out Clarkson's scoring in the women's race.
