Fiske announces Potsdam Board of Education candidacy

To the Editor:

I am announcing my intention to seek reelection to the Potsdam Central School District Board of Education. I am an incumbent, where I have served for the past six years.

I have been a resident of the Potsdam Central School District for 24 years.  I am employed as the Vice President for Information Technology at Clarkson University and have held several leadership roles in regional and state-wide non-profits, including serving on the Board of Directors at the Potsdam Volunteer Rescue Squad, the Church Board at the Potsdam Church of the Nazarene, and on the Board of Directors for NYSERNet.

During my tenure on the Board of Education, I have served on the Program and Policy, Audit, and Finance Committees. I served for the past three years as Board President, a role in which I led a successful search for a new Superintendent of Schools.

I have served in a variety of leadership roles and have demonstrated the ability to listen, think critically, build consensus, and deliver solutions that solve problems. Over the past six years, I have enjoyed being an active participant in my role on the School Board and I hope that the voters will see fit to reelect me to the role in May.

I graduatedWatkins Glen High School class of 2000, earned a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Clarkson University in 2003, and received a Master’s degree in Information Technology from Clarkson University in 2004.

I have three daughters -- Meredith, Charlotte, and Norah -- all of whom are students in the Potsdam School District. My wife, Rebecca, has been a high school English teacher for nearly eighteen years.

This fall I will see my oldest daughter move up to tenth grade, my middle child become an eighth grader, and my youngest move up to sixth grade.  With three children growing and learning in the district, I have a significant interest in making sure that we are offering all of our students a top-notch education, providing our faculty with the tools they need to be effective educators, and producing graduates that have a solid preparation for the challenges that life can present.

I would be honored to continue to serve on the Potsdam Board of Education and I would appreciate your vote on May 21, 2024.  Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the High School Auditorium.”
