Opinion: Charity hockey game nets $1,800 for Potsdam Educational Opportunities Fund

To the Editor:

I would like to thank all those that participated in making the 3rd annual Potsdam Educational Opportunities Fund Charity Hockey Game.

This year thanks to the generosity of Clarkson University we were able to feature two games. The first matched PCS teachers and staff against CPH doctors and staff.

It was an exciting game with PCS taking the win with a score of 5-3. The second game featured Clarkson University faculty and staff against SUNY Potsdam faculty and staff. Although Clarkson pulled their goalie at the end to try and tie it up, SUNY prevailed with a 7-5 win. It was a wonderful community event that raised over $1,800 for the Potsdam Educational Opportunities Fund (PEOF).

I would especially like to thank Clarkson University for their support of the event by donating the ice time, raffle items and the use of the team jerseys. A big thank you to Chris Bernard and Todd Kaiser of SUNY Potsdam for donating multiple raffle items to the event. John White of Evans and White generously provided the popcorn machine, and the members of the AAK Builders Leader Club Middle School who worked hard at selling the popcorn and water.

Thanks also go to the players and coaches from all four teams who provided evenly matched and entertaining games. Thanks as well to the PCS cheerleaders, the HS Pep Band, and former Clarkson announcer, Bob Ahlfeld who added to the fun, and to my fellow PEOF committee members who helped organize and sell the chuck a puck, raffle, and admissions tickets.

Thanks again to all that helped and came out to support PEOF! We hope to see you all next year!

Proceeds of the game benefitted the Potsdam Educational Opportunities Fund (PEOF), a grass roots organization that was initiated in 2012 to provide financial support for K-12 educational activities in the Potsdam Central School District.
