Colton Town Supervisor issues May report

Good news regarding the Transfer Station. Beginning May 7th, weather permitting, we will be blacktopping the driveway. We are close to opening and the latest target date will be the 2nd week of June. The earliest date will be the end of May. I hope everyone will be happy with what we have accomplished. This building will be around for years to come and will pay for itself within 5 years.

Thank you to Kevin Hawley and the Highway Department for doing the blacktopping. This shows how well the town can work together.

We are finally starting work on the sidewalks. Mark Fisher Construction got the bid at $33,300. Bonno Builders came in with $37,000. We are starting at the Route 56 intersection to the east intersection of the McCabe Road covering 300 feet by 5 feet wide.

Thank you to the Town Highway Department again for the street and road cleanup. It looks super. I'm aware of the hard work that is involved in the clean-up.

We are working at getting things ready for the Lazy Hazy Days to be held on July 27-28 this year. The parade will be held in South Colton and there will be other activities between the two villages. I will keep everyone posted.

We are also going to host an ATV Side by Side ride on Saturday, June 15, to be sponsored by the Colton-Pierrepont Amvets Post 262 and Camp Serenity for Wounded Warriors. A detailed description of events will follow.

The Water Treatment Plant will be upgraded, which will be paid for by grants and will be started soon. This will give the plant another 40+ years of life and will save the taxpayers of the Village of Colton millions of dollars. We can thank Darren Richards and the crew for the continuing upkeep of this building and the super job they have done through the years. It is much appreciated.

I wish everyone a safe and fun summer and I will see you out and about.
