NORWOOD: Guest bartender fundraiser, 5 p.m., American Legion Post 68, 10 Maple St.; benefits All Night Party Parent Committee for the Class of 2019 graduates of Norwood Norfolk Central School; live music from the band Down Whiskey Inc.; basket raffles, snacks, drinks.

Encountering Angels

POTSDAM: Encountering Angels - Celestial Beings in Byzantine Iconography topic of presentation by Mother Sophronia Hofstead, 7:30 p.m., Knowles Conference Center MPR at SUNY-Potsdam; free and open to the public; Mother Sophronia, a Byzantine iconographer and Orthodox Christian nun made her long-term home in the North Country earlier this year; she established her own hermitage and icon studio in Edwards, where she creates icons in prayer but also travels to teach icon painting and lecture on various aspects of this liturgical art form.

Financial Aid Day

CANTON: Representatives from both SUNY Canton and SUNY Potsdam providing a hands-on training session to help students and families maximize financial aid; SUNY Statewide Financial Aid Day, includes informational session and workshop, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.; registration in MacArthur Hall's Halford Lobby, workshops in Wicks Hall Rooms 006 and 008 at the SUNY Canton Campus. Parking will be available in lot 5; both area State University of New York colleges cohost the free event for students planning to attend any state or private college; register for the event in advance through SUNY's Financial Aid Day Website or by calling 1-800-342-3811; walk-ins welcome; 315-386-7616, finaid@canton.edu.

Food pantry
