POTSDAM -- April’s featured recipe for Juanita’s 1st Thursday Creations at the Food Co-op, 24 Elm St., is oatmeal cake with brown butter icing. The event will be held April 6, from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Sample the dish, talk to Juanita Babcock, and pick up a copy of the recipe.
Grown primarily in North America and Europe, the humble, ordinary oat transforms into a sweet dessert with unlimited dimensions - call it decadence with a conscience.
Oats are slow digesting, low in fat and sodium, and with antioxidants that help to reduce the risk of cardiac disease.
They are also a powerhouse of magnesium, manganese, copper, zinc, thiamin, phosphorus, and of course, fiber. In this recipe, the eggs, whole wheat flour, pecans, and oats combine to give you an unusually high quality protein.
After sampling Juanita's creation you are invited to join Rose Rivezzi for Shopping with Rosie between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m.
She will give you a personalized tour of the Co-op, where you can see how the bulk bins work or find out how to order through the buying club for deeper discounts.
She loves talking about food and exploring recipe ideas and ways to use various Co-op products.
You can chat with staff or see the Bakery with its wood-fired oven. Recipes from Juanita’s Creations from the past three years are also available in the binders on the bookshelf in the store.
