CANTON -- A Contra Tune School will be held Tuesdays through early December from 4:30 until 6 p.m. beginning Sept. 29 at TAUNY, 53 Main St. TAUNY and the student contra dance club at St. Lawrence University have partnered to host this ongoing workshop and associated contra dances open to the entire community.
The dances will be on Friday, Oct. 30, at TAUNY and Saturday, Dec. 12, at St. Lawrence University.
Tune Meetings will be a cross between lessons and a jam, with a melody instrument player teaching new tunes each week.
Players should be comfortable learning by ear, and are encouraged to bring recording devices and/or notebooks. Melody and rhythm instruments are welcome.
Styles will vary depending on the teachers, who will include fiddler Dillon Black and clawhammer banjo player Camilla Ammirati. Info: 386-4289 or programs@tauny.org.
