Canton Central School District hosts budget hearing

CANTON -- Canton-Central School District will host a public hearing will at 7 p.m. May 9 in the learning center to discuss the budget.

The budget vote and election of the Canton Central School District will be held on Tuesday, May 21 in the learning center from noon to 9 p.m.

Voting for the budget, candidates for the board of education and other propositions, as needed, will be held at this time.

The budget has not been finalized, but information on the budget will be mailed to district residents by May 15.

Copies of the budget, as well as the tax exemption impact report, will also be available in the district office between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. beginning May 2.

There will be three vacancies on the board of education this year.

All three vacancies are for three-year terms.

Petition forms to be filed for these vacancies can be obtained from Cynthia A. Whitford, Clerk of the Board of Education, at the District Office, Canton Central School, 99 State Street, Canton, New York, commencing on Monday, April 8, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., except Saturdays, Sundays, or holidays.

Petitions must be filed no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, April 22.

On April 22, the district clerk will be in the district office to accept petitions until 5 p.m. A lottery drawing for positions on the ballot will be held in the district office on Tuesday, April 23 at 1 p.m.

Applications for absentee ballots may be obtained from the district office from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., except Saturdays, Sundays, or holidays.

Completed applications must be received by the district clerk at least seven days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election, if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter.

Absentee ballots must be received by the clerk no later than 5 p.m. daylight savings time on May 21.
