William C. Clinger, 79, Ogdensburg

OGDENSBURG -- Funeral services for William C. Clinger, age 79, of Ogdensburg, will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, beginning with calling hours from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home.

The Funeral Mass will follow at 12:00 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, with Rev. Arthur Garno officiating.

Burial will take place at the East Road Cemetery in DePeyster at a later date.

William Charles Clinger known to friends and family as ‘Bill’ or ‘Uncle Bill’, Bill passed away peacefully on May 21 st , 2025, surrounded by family.

He was born in Derry Township, Pennsylvania on October, 12, 1945, and raised by Albert B. and Catherine (Clark) Clinger.

He enlisted in the US Navy and served in active duty during the Vietnam War as a Motor Boat Operator. He was honorably discharged in 1966 and awarded a medal for Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for service in Viet Nam National Defense Service Medal.

There Bill met his lifelong friend Larry who introduced him to the love of his life Sylvia.

Bill and Sylvia J. Burdick married in Ogdensburg, NY at the United Methodist Church Ogdensburg, NY on July 8, 1967.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Angela Dart of Warren, PA; grandson, Ryan Dart and his companion, Lacey Bjorkquist of Pennsylvania; and great-grandchildren, Oaklyn and Hudson Dart. He is also survived by his long-time navy buddy, Lawrence Seguin and his daughter, Tara Young and by his sisters-in-law, Donna Burdick and Mildred Bullock as well as his many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Sylvia Clinger, who passed on October 20, 2009.

Bill’s professional career was rooted in fire protection. He served as a Fireman at Fort Drum from 1967 to 1969, then worked at Mid Hudson Fire Protection from 1969 to 1970, and then at Grinnell Fire Protection from 1970 to 1978.

He went on to operate his own business, Approved Fire Protection, from 1978 to 1990. After relocating to Hermon, NY in 1990 he worked as damn operator in Ogdensburg.

An active member of the community, Bill was involved in the VFW, American Legion, the St. Lawrence Power & Equipment Museum and enjoyed performing in an occasional open-mic night.

He had many passions, including playing guitar, composing spiritual music, gardening, building projects, fishing, visiting Eel Weir Park, but most of all, spending time with family and friends.
