CANTON – Canton Fire were dispatched to the SN Partners John Deere Dealership on County Route 27 around 6:34 p.m. Friday for a reported vehicle fire dangerously close to the building.
Canton Fire, Canton Rescue, and County Car 4 responded to the call, according to online reports.
Chief Rob Holcomb (Car 4-4) was reportedly en route at the time of the alarm and arrived on scene at 6:40 p.m. to find a tractor engulfed in flames at the rear of the shop about three feet from the structure.
Engine 7 arrived shortly after, with its crew quickly deploying a hand line to knock down the fire. Firefighters gained access to the building and used a thermal imaging camera to check for potential fire spread into the walls. Fortunately, no extension was found, officials said.
Additional personnel arrived with Rescue 1 and Tanker 20 to assist in operations. A total of 15 Canton Fire members responded to the scene.
Investigation determined the fire was caused by an electrical malfunction within the tractor.
"Thanks to the swift response, no civilian or firefighter injuries were reported," Canton fire said.
All units were back in service by 7:40 p.m.
Canton Rescue, County Car 4, St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, St. Lawrence Safety and Security, and the Canton Police Department also assisted at the scene.
