North Country This Week
POTSDAM — The town has approved the annexation of the former Cheryl’s Diner property over to the village.
Ronald Page, a local developer and businessman, and the owner of the property requested the annexation so he could supply the restaurant lot with more reliable village water and sewer service.
Prior the town board’s approval of the annexation at its Aug. 8 meeting, both municipalities hosted a public hearing to receive comments on Page’s request.
Several local residents spoke during the hearing in support of Page’s intention to reopen an eatery at the location in coming weeks.
Page purchased the lot at 215 and 219 State Route 11B (parcel number 65.053-2-6) on March 1 for $45,000 from the estate of Janet Lindsay.
The property, which sits on town land, is surrounded on three sides by the village’s Damon Field Airport which sits on village land.
The diner, previously managed by Cheryl and Dave Denny, closed in September 2019.
The town board unanimously approved the resolution granting Page’s request for the annexation.
