POTSDAM — SUNY Potsdam is preparing to welcome more than 500 alumni, emeriti and friends to campus for Reunion 2025, taking place Tuesday, July 8, through Sunday, July 13.
The annual celebration will feature campus tours, alumni awards, performances, and opportunities for attendees to reconnect with classmates, faculty and the local community.
Reunion will open with virtual events to include alumni from across the globe. On July 8, New York Times bestselling author Tracey Lange will host a Zoom discussion about her new novel, What Happened to the McCrays?, set in Potsdam. She is also planning a campus visit in the fall.
On July 9, a virtual Reunion 5K kickoff will be held at 10 a.m. on the SUNY Potsdam Bears Alumni Facebook page, honoring the memory of Roland Moquin ’73. A virtual campus tour with alumna Victoria Fitch ’19 & ’23 follows at 10:15 a.m.
In-person events begin Thursday, July 10, with a 4 p.m. welcome reception in the Barrington Student Union’s Fireside Lounge, featuring live music from alumni musicians Alex Vangellow and Rob Zolner (Hon. ’14).
Friday, July 11, includes a full day of activities such as a Crane School of Music retrospective, campus and renovation tours, a literary magazine anniversary celebration, and a fireside chat and photo exhibit by Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Stephan Savoia ’75. That evening, President Smith and Brett Lloyd will host a “Thanksgiving in July” dinner, followed by a dessert reception for the Class of 1975 and the 50-Year Club.
The day wraps up with a live performance by Double Axel at Maxfield’s in downtown Potsdam.
Saturday, July 12, begins with a second Reunion 5K Walk/Run and includes a will and estate planning seminar, a tour of Bayside Cemetery, and a Bears Hall of Fame induction honoring the 1978–79 men’s basketball team and 1976–78 men’s swimming and diving teams. A dedication ceremony for the “Doc” Mark S. Hartman Practice Room at Crane is also planned.
The evening will feature a reception and Alumni Association awards presentation from 4 to 7 p.m., with a silent auction and more music by Double Axel. This year’s honorees include:
Minerva Award: Robert Wagner ’75; Donald L. Tompkins Distinguished Service Award: Peter Galloway ’83; Rising Star Award: Shavon Lloyd ’19; Honorary Lifetime Membership: Dr. Alan Hersker; St. Lawrence Academy Medal: Kristie Farr ’92 & ’95; Helen M. Hosmer Excellence in Music Teaching Award: Jane Morale ’80 and Dr. Lonel Woods Peace and Love Award: Heather Osowiecki ’11
Saturday night concludes with a 25th anniversary celebration at Hurley’s Coffeehouse, open mic night and comedy set by Brenda Henry ’83, and the Crane Alumni Trombones concert in Hosmer Hall. Attendees can also enjoy fireworks at Ives Park as part of the Potsdam Summer Festival.
Reunion will conclude Sunday, July 13, with a farewell brunch and the SUNY Potsdam Alumni Association meeting.
Throughout the week, guests can attend performances of Something Rotten!, part of the Community Performance Series, featuring SUNY Potsdam students, alumni, faculty and local professionals. The musical runs July 9–13. Tickets are available at www.cpspotsdam.org/summer-musical.
Reunion 2025 is held in partnership with the Village of Potsdam’s Summer Festival, sponsored by the Potsdam Chamber of Commerce.
