CANTON,— SUNY Canton will be offering State-required security guard training sessions beginning on June 17.

The 90-day on-the-job course will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, and Wednesday, June 18. The 16-hour course is required after three months in a security guard position. The two-day course costs $150 per person.

An annual in-service security guard training course will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 19. The eight-hour training is required annually and will include professional updates from the field. The course costs $75 per person.

Former University Police Chief and Canton Village Police Chief Alan P. Mulkin will present the training sessions. Mulkin, who is currently a lecturer for the Center for Criminal Justice, Intelligence and Cybersecurity, has nearly 40 years of police experience and is New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services approved as a security guard instructor.

The college offers this training as a community service outreach for local agencies employing security guards through the college's Center for Workforce, Community and Industry Partnerships (WCIP).
