St. Lawrence County will celebrate America with Fourth of July festivities that include fireworks, parades, dancing and demolition derby.

The July 4 holiday tradition in both the Norwood and Morristown communities will continue with a host of events and activities for the whole family.

Here’s a look at what's happening throughout the county.

NORWOOD 

The village of Norwood is gearing up for its annual Independence Day festivities with two days of family-friendly events planned in the park and at the Firemen's Field.

The Norwood Brass Fireman will perform July 3, in the park beginning at 7 p.m. While the traditional block dance will not be held this year, attendees can enjoy an evening treat from an ice cream truck stationed nearby.

Celebrations continue July 4 with a variety of activities throughout the day. From noon to 3 p.m., Belly Buttons the Clown will be in the park offering face painting for children. Donations at her table will benefit the Norwood Fire Department.

Let’s Bounce Inflatables, LLC will set up two bounce houses in the park. Wristbands for entry will be available for purchase. An ice cream truck will be on site before and after the parade.

Pony rides and a petting zoo featuring a miniature horse and a donkey will be offered at the park from 10:30 a.m. to around 12:30 p.m., and again from 2 to 3 p.m. Rides cost $5, with animal treat bags available for $1 each.

The parade kicks off at 1 p.m.  beginning on Maple Street and traveling along Spring Street, across Route 56 onto Bicknell Street, before ending at Morgan Street and the Firemen’s Field. Returning this year is the Brockville Pipes and Drums Band from Canada, along with many community members and local businesses contributing floats.

Food will be available for purchase at the Firemen’s Field, including hamburgers, hotdogs, sausages, French fries, and drinks. There will be no additional food vendors on site.

Also beginning at 1 p.m. is the Demolition Derby at the Firemen’s Field. Entry is $5 per person, with children 10 and under admitted free. Derby participants are asked to arrive early to prepare.

The celebration will conclude with a $10,000 fireworks display at dusk, sponsored by the Norwood Firemen’s Association. Donations are being accepted to support and expand the show in future years. Contributions of $500 or more will be acknowledged with signage at the entrance to the Firemen’s Field. Donation jars are also located throughout Norwood.

HANNAWA FALLS 

The 40th annual Robert Plumb Memorial Fireworks will be held on July 5 at dusk in Postwood Park on the Raquette River.

Donations can be made at Chip’s Place.

Jake’s on the Water is a major sponsor for the event. The show will be presented by Majestic Fireworks.

MORRISTOWN

The Morristown Fire Department has announced its full lineup of events for the 2025 Fourth of July weekend, featuring live music, fireworks, a parade, food, and family fun — all capped off with a community 5K run.

July 3

Festivities kick off Thursday evening at the Morristown Fire Station, where Another Fine Mess will perform live from 7 to 11 p.m. The night concludes with a fireworks display at dusk.

July 4

The Independence Day celebration continues Friday with the Annual Steve Spilman Memorial Parade, starting at 10 a.m. on Main Street. Immediately following the parade, the Fire Department will host a full day of activities starting at 11:30 a.m., including: Chicken BBQ and a concession stand offering hamburgers, hot dogs, sausage, French fries, bread dough, and cold drinks; a 50/50 raffle and a variety of games of chance; a car show and dunking booth; the Morristown FD Auxiliary Craft Fair.

July 5

The holiday weekend wraps up with the 11th Annual Firecracker 5K & Fun Run, hosted by the Morristown Recreation Committee. Registration opens at 8:00 a.m., and the race begins at 9 a.m. behind Morristown Central School on Ann Street.

GOUVERNEUR

The Gouverneur Fire Company will host the North Country’s largest fireworks display on July 3, at the Gouverneur Fair Grounds. Now in its 146th year, the annual celebration will begin at dusk and features an evening of community, entertainment, and patriotic fun.

Gates open at 5 p.m., with donations requested at the entrance to support the fire company’s efforts. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs, or tailgate supplies, or enjoy the display from the seated grandstand area.

The event will feature a wide variety of food vendors offering pulled pork, Italian sausage, poutine, hamburgers, hot dogs, BBQ, pizza, fried dough, fresh-cut fries, cotton candy, candy apples, popcorn, cheesecake on a stick, and more. Toys, glow sticks, and other novelty items will also be available for purchase.

A 50/50 raffle will be held, with tickets available at the firemen’s tent.

Vendors interested in participating must contact the Gouverneur Fire Department at 315-287-1537. Proof of insurance and a vendor fee are required.

Important Reminders
Personal fireworks and flares are not permitted. Public restrooms and additional port-a-potties will be available on site.

CRANBERRY LAKE 

The Cranberry Boat Club will be hosting their 16th annual Firecracker Race/Walk on July 4 starting at the Cranberry Lake Boat Launch at 9 a.m. Races will include a 5K and 10K Run, 5K Walk, and 1 Mile Fun Walk. This is a non-sanctioned race down Columbian Road, where there is little to no traffic.

Day of registration will begin at 8 a.m. at the Long Term Parking Lot for the Cranberry Lake Boat Launch. Registration includes a T-shirt and pre-registration is encouraged. Adults (before June 22): $25, Adults (after June 22): $30; Children 12 and Under: $5

All proceeds are donated to the Cranberry Lake Boat Club that invests in local projects like the Beach Park, Pavilion, Oswegatchie River Walk, Hub, etc.

POTSDAM 

Orchestra of Northern New York will present ‘Under the Stars and Stripes’ on July 3 at SUNY Potsdam’s Hosmer Hall at 7:30 p.m. Info - 315-212-3440.
