A potent low pressure system will track across the North Country On Thanksgiving Day bringing widespread snow, occasionally heavy, to much of the region, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
Expect a high temperature today around 38 with rain and snow mixing early, before becoming all run after 4 p.m., forecasters say. Around a half inch of snow is possible. Overnight will see another possible half inch of snow with an overnight low of 29.
The system exits by Friday with colder conditions for the weekend and some areas of moderate to heavy lake effect snow ongoing downwind of Lake Ontario through Sunday, NWS says.
Some scattered snow shower activity will also remain possible in the higher terrain of the Green Mountains during this period, but should be on the lighter side, the service says.
The extended forecast through next Wednesday is as follows:
Friday
A chance of snow before noon, then a chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 37. Southwest wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
Friday Night
A 40 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28. Southwest wind around 8 mph. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Saturday
A chance of rain and snow showers before 1pm, then rain showers likely between 1pm and 3pm, then rain and snow showers likely after 3pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 37. Southwest wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
