OGDENSBURG — A total of 947 free Thanksgiving meals were served to Ogdensburg area residents on Thanksgiving Day, thanks to the Ogdensburg Knights of Columbus.

Meals were served at the Msgr. A. D. Charbonneau Council 258 Knights of Columbus room, Hasbrouck St., from noon to 2 p.m., along with take-out and delivery options for shut-ins.

“This was one of the biggest years we have ever had. It’s gone from 600 to over 900 meals this year. I just upped the order for next year to plan for more than 1,000 meals,” said Bill Taylor, head cook.

Taylor said they purchased 37 turkey breasts each about 16 pounds for this Thanksgiving meal.

He has been helping with all but one of the past 30 years since the Knights of Columbus began the free Thanksgiving meals.

“The membership would to thank the numerous volunteers and everyone that donated money to make this another memorable year,” said Dan Harradine, of the the Knights of Columbus.
