CANTON -- St. Lawrence County is allocating over $78,000 in unique funding from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) to pay for pre-trial document management software.
Legislators approved a budget modification to cover the expense, which comes from the unique funding totaling $206,139 from DCJS for the 2024-25 budget years.
According to county officials, New York State Industries for the Disabled, Inc. (NYSID) Corporate Partners Secure Scan has provided the Probation Department with the quote of $78,541 for scanning, shredding and transportation services.
"This service will provide the Probation Department with needed digital access to old microfiche, compact disks and paper files," county officials said.
In other action, legislators also approved a budget modification for the Sheriff's Office for the fiscal year 2025 Police Traffic Services (PTS) grant from the governor's Traffic Safety Committee.
The funds, totaling $8,184, will be used to cover overtime expenses incurred by the program, legislators said.
A second budget modification for the Sheriff's Office was approved for the Operation StoneGarden Grant.
The contract period of the grant ran from Sept. 1, 2021 to Aug. 31, 2024, totaling $300,000, though an extension was approved by a resolution to extend the contract through Aug. 31, 2025.
Legislators approved the $13,667 modification to cover fees and services incurred by the department.
A third budget modification for the Sheriff's Office was approved to utilize $98,266 from the grant program to cover a range of expenses including technical expenses, overtime, technical equipment, retirement, social security and workmen's compensation expenses that could be covered through the Operation Stonegarden Program grant.
An additional $150,815 was also secured and approved for the Sheriff's Office as part of the Domestic Terrorism Prevention (DTP) grant program.
Legislators previously approved acceptance of a fiscal year 2022 Domestic Terrorism Prevention Grant totaling $172,413, though the funds were not fully expended and required a contract extension through Aug. 31, 2025.
The budget modification will allow the Office to expend $150,815 of the federal aid for various expenses ranging from supervisory and administrative expenses to overtime costs, retirement, social security, life insurance, medical insurance, office supplies and fees or services.
