Sarah Ann Lawrence, 68, formerly of Canton

CANTON - Sarah Ann Lawrence, 68, of Sierra Vista, AZ died on January 3, 2025 at home in hospice care after a short illness. She was born in Canton, NY on January 21, 1956 to Walter S. and Ruth O’Neill Lawrence. She was the ninth of 14 children who grew up helping their parents operate the family dairy farm. She graduated from Hugh C. Williams High School in Canton, NY in 1974 and from Phoenix Union nursing school in Arizona in 1978 and received her LPN nursing degree.

Sarah began her nursing career in Arizona and retired in 2023 from Beatitudes Campus Assisted Living Community in Phoenix after 22 years. She spent the last 10 years working in the Alzheimer’s unit. She loved her work and caring for the elderly was her special gift. She is survived by her significant other, Rick Spivey of Sierra Vista, AZ and longtime best friends Paulette Gratto and Carmen Mendoza, both of Sierra Vista, AZ and her rescue cats Dobby and Fluffy.

Survivors also include: sisters Patricia Trombley; Karen Fruehan; Micky Hager; Jean Mills; Marcia (William) Hershey; Carol Lawrence and Ellen Lawrence (Lin Geho) and brothers Scott (Kim) Lawrence; Brian Lawrence; David (Fran) Lawrence; Jay (Cindy) Lawrence and Stuart (Michele) Lawrence. Another sister, Mary Lou (William) Brunelle, died in 1999. Sarah also leaves many nephews, nieces and cousins. Sarah loved all animals, especially her cats.
