AKWESASNE – The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe is providing notice of the non-members fishing season ended on Oct. 10.
A non-member may not fish during a closed season for any species, including catch and release (sport fishing) within the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe's jurisdiction.
"SRMT jurisdiction" includes the Southern waters of the St. Lawrence River and its affluents, including the St. Regis River, Raquette River, Salmon River, and Grasse River. This also includes the areas where these waterways merge with the St. Lawrence River upstream within the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe's jurisdiction.
Pursuant to the SRMT Non-Member Fishing Regulations and Law, the Compliance Department is delegated authority to act in the best interest of the Tribe, with respect to matters concerning fishing of any kind in SRMT waters. These actions are undertaken to ensure the continuation of natural resources such as fish, a culturally significant source of nutrition and economic development for Tribal Members.
For more information, contact the SRMT Compliance Department at (518)358-2273 during regular business hours.
