AKWESASNE — The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Environment Division will hold a 30-day Public Comment Period for an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the SRMT Community Wellness Center (EA 2024-07).

The EA is for construction of a 173,000 square foot facility to be located at Margaret Terrance Memorial Way, north of the  Tribal Administration Building.

The facility will provide a new space for Health and Disease Prevention activities within the scope of SRMT's self-governance compact with Indian Health Services.

In one location, Tribal health and wellness programs will be able to provide services to the community that include training, nutrition, physical fitness, mental health, and preventive drug and alcohol activities.

In addition, the facility shall be home to a new Akwesasne Boys & Girls Club, to replace their existing building that is outdated, undersized and non-compliant to current building code requirements.

The building includes an indoor field house and a large multi-purpose room to allow for year-round physical fitness and wellness training, educational events, and cultural enrichment activities.

The preliminary floor plans and environmental assessment documents are available to view here: https://shorturl.at/Rfztr. Or contact Dylan Herne to request a hard copy. The deadline to submit written comments is August 7, 2024 and may be sent to:  Dylan Herne, Environmental Assessment Coordinator, SRMT Environment Division, 449 Frogtown Road, Akwesasne, NY 13655; or (518) 358-5937; or dylan.herne@srmt-nsn.gov.
