POTSDAM -- The Potsdam town board recently approved a mowing bid for its cemeteries, a personnel appointment, and a new meeting time for the spring and summer meetings.

The board voted the approvals in at its last regular meeting on April 8.

First the board approved a bid from local landscaping firm Seaway Valley Lawn Care in the amount of $6,000 to mow the 8 town-owned cemeteries. The firm will provide mowing five times per year under the contract.

Seaway Valley Lawn Care has traditionally provided the service to the town.

Town owned cemeteries include Daily Ridge at Daily Ridge Church on Elliot Road, Union Cemetery on U.S. Highway 56 north, Hinman Cemetery on Madrid Road, Grant Cemetery on U.S. Highway 11 south, Parmenter on County Road 59, Leete (or Dayton) on South Canton Road, Buck Bridge in Bucks Bridge off Madrid Springs Road, and Hewittville on River Road.

The board also approved the appointment of Jeffrey Donovan to the position of motor equipment operator for the town highway department by highway superintendent John Keleher.

Donovan's appointment was effective April 10.

The town board signed off on the salary of $28.20 per hour under the provisions of the truck drivers and workers collective bargaining agreement.

Finally, the town board approved a change to its meeting start time for June, July and August. The board will convene its regular meetings during those months at 4:30 p.m.
