Potsdam resident urges resistance to Potsdam revaluation

Posted

To the Editor:

The people of The Town of Potsdam are enduring first-hand the negative consequences of a revaluation process put into place by The Town of Potsdam and GAR Associates. This system, primarily online, is leaving many town residents with inadequate access to grievance procedures, infringing upon their rights to fair representation.

Every resident should have equal access to these processes, irrespective of their capabilities to navigate or access to online platforms. Many have called for assistance and have been told to complete the online process and are given no other recourse.

The repercussion of this revaluation doesn't stop here. Residents will be under a heavy financial strain due to increased assessments directly affecting the tax burden that we shoulder. Our school tax, town tax, and county tax burdens are escalating, making life increasingly difficult in our beloved town.

The final document of the revaluation tentative assessment should not be sanctioned by the current assessor. This revaluation process needs to be ceased immediately, and the findings by GAR Associates must be withdrawn from consideration.

All procedures related to this revaluation should directly be put on hold until a fair and practical solution can be planned that has the best interest of all Potsdam residents.

For the sake of Potsdam's future and the well-being of its residents, we jointly urge the current assessor to refuse to sign the final assessment as put forward by GAR.

We need an instantaneous halt to this revaluation process.

Stand with the residents of Potsdam. Sign this petition today on Change.org.
