To the Editor:
I write today in support of Marty Miller for Town of Potsdam Supervisor. I have known Marty for many years both professionally and personally, and I find him to be a thoughtful and resourceful person who is ready to work with others for the common good. Marty’s background and expertise in public works is perfectly suited for the role of Supervisor and the current state of affairs in the Town of Potsdam. Marty’s common sense and personable character make him an excellent partner for working with the two Villages in the town - both Norwood and Potsdam.
Recently there has been publicity about two write-in candidates. In my experience, write in campaigns happen for two reasons. The first is that signatures were obtained on petitions and some mistake was made and papers were not filed on time by earnest candidates who had planned to run. To my knowledge neither write-in candidate circulated petitions in the snow and rain last March.
The second reason for a write-in campaign is for folks who decide at the last minute that they want to run but they have not committed themselves to the process or the office. Often, those candidates in the second group are motivated by a singular dispute with the current office holder rather than an earnest desire to serve the community in elected office.
Marty Miller does not fall in either of these categories. Marty Miller has successfully run for office previously. Marty Miller has served since 2019 as a Town Councilman. Marty Miller walked door to door through rain and snow last year to collect signatures so that his name could appear on the ballot. That is what dedicated elected officials do. They commit themselves to an office by planning ahead and doing the hard work throughout the process.
Marty Miller has done the hard work and will continue to do that work as Potsdam Town Supervisor. As a former Potsdam Town Councilman, I encourage all the voters in Potsdam to elect Marty Miller November 7.
