To the Editor:
I’ll try to be nice this time as I hurt too many feelings last time.
Mr. Shirtz talks (Opinion: Irresponsible spending by government, says Rensselaer Falls man - Sept. 26, 2023) about a balanced budget and economics, stating that Keynesian economics helps to only make the rich richer and the poor poorer. Funny he should mention this, because it was Keynesian economics that helped to get the nation out of the Great Depression, multiple recessions, and help to stabilize the nation's economy every time. Keynesian ideology has been shown to work.
Reaganomics or trickle down is what Mr. Shirtz should be badmouthing as this is shown to only cause inflation and an increase in debt while allowing the rich to get much richer and the poor to be more poor.
Need anyone need reminding, the Trump years increased the national budget significantly while lining the pockets of the rich.
The failure of a balanced budget really has to do with the trickle down theory and the improper taxing of the wealthy while the poor bear the brunt.
Mr. Shirtz is wrong in his letter but supports a balanced budget. I wonder if he supported President Clinton when he was in office as he had…balanced the budget.
